eHealth
eHealth Nigeria designs and implements eHealth systems and software that WORK in Nigeria’s difficult computing environment. Our eHealth work focuses on implementing Electronic Medical Records to improve patient care and a Human Resources Platform to increase hospitals and clinics ability to effectively manage their facility.
Electronic Medical Record System
eHealth Nigeria utilizes OpenMRS, a community-developed, enterprise electronic medical record system framework, intended to aid resource-constrained health care environments. It is currently being used in both hospitals and clinics in 43 different countries. It is a common framework upon which medical informatics efforts in developing countries can be built.
eHealth Nigeria has tailored OpenMRS specifically to the needs and standards present in Nigeria’s health-care system. It contains the forms and reports that are used across local, state, and federal health agencies. It aids health care workers by “alerting” them when patients show warning signs for various diseases and conditions. It provides reference information on diseases and medications for staff to use when needed. The EMR manages drug regimens for patients with chronic diseases, such as AIDS and MDR-TB. The EMR allows for lab results, drug ordering, and referrals to happen electronically to reduce paperwork and prevent errors.

Human Resources for Health
eHealth Nigeria utilizes the software Human Resources Information System (HRIS). The primayi aim of the HRIS is to provide better data to drive effective decision-making for addressing daily challenges and positively impacting HR policies and practice. The software is designed to be:
- a training and license tracking database which enables a licensing or certification authority for a health worker group, such as nurses or physicians, to track complete data on a group in a country from pre-service training through departure.
- a human resources management system which enables an organization to design and manage a comprehensive human resources strategy.
- and a workforce planning and modeling software which enables decision makers to assess their workforce needs for the next several years, project the actual health workforce over the same time and make effective policy decisions to close the gap between the two
The Human Resources Information System (HRIS) has been implemented in Uganda, Rwanda, Swaziland, Kenya, Tanzania. The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital will benefit greatly from this software as it provides an easy way to manage the large number of health staff working throughout the state.
