Research

Maternal and Reproductive Health Module

In order to improve the data collection and patient/client management for Maternal and Reproductive Health, our team needs to travel to Nigeria to perform clinical assessments and further tests of the OpenMRS system.

Costs:

  • Travel to Nigeria: $2500 (including airfare, visa, etc) per person
  • Programmer Staff: $25/hr (1 week: $1000)
  • OpenMRS Server: $600
  • Low Power Laptop or Desktop: $400

Touch-Screen Computers

Touch screen computers will improve data entry, speed up patient registration and support clinicians at point of care. The Baobab Health Partnership implemented a touch screen interface in Malawi.

Costs:

  • Asus touch-screen computer: $374

Patient ID Cards

A patient ID system needs to be developed to help track patients, reduce waiting time and support clinical staff in making more informed health decisions. The patient registration system of the Baobab Health Partnership is a great example of this at work.

Costs:

  • Barcode Scanner and ID Card Printer: $500

Solar and Battery Backup

Nigeria has persistent power issues in both urban and rural areas. In order to have a successful Electronic Medical Records System, it will need to be powered using solar and battery power.

Costs:

  • Sealed, Deep Cycle Battery Backup: $160
  • Portable Solar Panels: $1000
